Concerts I've been to in the last months
Do we agree on the fact that a concert is always a great plan? Even if it's in a little room, a medium size one or at a football stadium. There are concerts I would love to attend before I die but, in general, I never say no to a concert!
My collegue Mari is a concerts and Amy freak, so we attended an Amy's tribute concert by Dina & The Holly Band, a band from Seville. Dina's voice is so similar to Amy's it's scary. Judge for yourself.

There's no doubt
I was 13 when I got to know No Doubt and I got obsessed. I sang with baby lips like Gwen and fell in love with Adrian Young. I used to download lots of videos and I watched them until I knew them by hard (and it was a long wait until they were download in those days) and dreamed about watching them live. Videos like this one:

Reuni on en Barcelona
It's just a pity you would like to have a frequent drink with some people but you just can't because they live in another city, country or continent. At the same time, the possibility of loving someone even if you can't have a frequent drink with him/her is cool, isn't it? Fortunately, our geographic situation doesn't decisively affect in our friendships and its us who really decide.
I fell in love with people. It isn't planed, it's love at first sight and it happens when I think: "Yes, bro/sis, totally, I understand you deeply, I like you and admire the way you are" and it doesn't matter if that person lives in New Delhi, Buenos Aires or Madrid, if we talk to each other ones a week, a month or a year. I love her. Because of her particularities. Because she makes me believe in the immense possibilities life offers, in the fact that truths are relative and in love (yes, it's corny but it's true, deal with it!).
Something tremendously good about geographically diverse friendships is how fun reuni on s are! And that's what I attended a few weeks ago, a quick little reunion in Barcelona with some friends of the PetitPontErasmus.

Aloud thoughts on beauty
No sé.
When creating, we are inspired by nature. And still, we get surprised by how aesthetic nature is. I get surprised. Some living animals seem perfectly done, neatly painted staying within the lines.
Is it beautiful because we consider beautiful all that is within the aesthetics that, in its origin, was inspired by the very nature? Man, this is twisted...
I don't know. I just know that beauty is around us. And that I love monkey, with their little hands and fast eyes. My monkey obsession started with Marcel. Yes, Ross'. Yes, Friends'.
I also like people very much.

People 1: Mateo
Hola, soy Mateo. A veces demasiado.
Hi, I'm Mateo. I like playing with the Play Station 7. I study Finance in Stockholm and live in Copenhagen. Since I left my parent's house in Madrid to live on my own, I feel free! Well, the truth is I do miss my father's cooking and my mother's singing all the time. They really love each other, though they act like children sometimes. They fight over actual nonsense and after a while they kiss each other like crazy. "Shut up already! You sound like a broken disc!" says my mother to my father (I never understood what this expression meant... what disc? Those hard disc things that used to run computers? My mother is really vintage sometimes and really modern other times) and, after a while, she hugs him as if she hasn't seen him for a year. She's a very loving person. Sometimes she's too much. When I was a child, she was always rubbing the lipstick out of my face, after kissing me like crazy. Fortunately, she now uses the non-staining ones.
As I said before, I move between Stockholm and Copenhagen almost every day by train and bike to get to uni. I get there pretty fast. In the afternoons, if we don't have any project or presentation to make, my friends and I hang out: Dinesh, Giulia, Sae, Thijs, Martin and Joy. And, at least 4 days per week, we have a party plan. The bar I like the most is "Yesterday", scened like the 2020's. It has a cool vibe.

Art is life!
It was the second time I went to Tate Modern and I was decided to see everything that was in there! But.. there's never enough time! (I didn't even get to see the Damien Hirst exhibition) I will have to plan trips only to visit the modern art museums of every city. When I am in one, I usually get lost in time and inspiration.

Good and Evil
El musical Wicked, The untold story of the witches of Oz, está basado en la novela de 1995 “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” por Gregory Maguire.
En definitiva, reí, lloré y me fui queriendo leer Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West!
¿No te parece?

Marea Negra

While time passes, I feel more aware of our responsibility regarding the environment and recognize the importance of living as eco-friendly as possible. About 7 years ago, I pasted a sticker on my room’s door with the more than known phrase “THINK GLOBAL. ACT LOCAL” surrounding the shape of the planet earth. The truth is I pasted it at the time because of my obsession with the world and maps, just because I liked having the world at my room’s door. But this phrase took a logical and essential meaning for me over time, while public opinion, media and the way of doing business changed.
This phrase has a simple and down to earth meaning that can be applied both to the environment and society in general. Yes, it is up to us to make the world a better place every day and with our own little actions, our ways of living. To do so, we must be constantly in touch with information that opens our eyes, make us think beyond and show the results of our actions as human beings.
Art and culture are very effective tools of communication. Thus, we can find people like Daniel Beltrá, photographer from Madrid, who are conservationist professionals. Daniel specializes in aerial photography and this is how he shows the magnitude of some natural disasters, often in collaboration with Greenpeace.
Spill shows some of his last work, focused on the oil spill occurred in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2010. These air and ground photographs show the disaster and its immense beauty, creating a strange contrary feeling.

Marilyn is back
Get smashed!
Trailer
Smash was an original idea by Steven Spielberg, executive producer of the show, who fantasized about making each season out of a different new musical production and then actually staging it on Broadway if it was worth it. Isn't that a perfect plan? Hell yeah! It can be an idea that contributes to Broadway's needed change so as to reactivate. Anyway, Spielberg talked about it to former chairman of NBC Entertainment Robert Greenblatt and the project was born.
This first season is all about Marilyn, The Musical (though they haven't figured out the title yet). The truth is it can seem like "not Marilyn again..." at first, but that thought is quickly vanished on the first minutes of a 90 minute pilot. Many of us have had a Marilyn fan period (Some like it hot was my favorite movie for a while and I own 7 of them, though most of them are pretty bad) and she is an undoubtedly timeless icon. We can find hundreds of books, documentaries, artistic photographs, a well-known contemporary art piece and a 2011 movie about her. Her image is related to sex, sadness, drugs and music, to name a few, so it has been tried to make a musical out of her but it certainly wasn't a hit. The topic has what it takes to be a smash so why not trying it again?
Here are the ingredients that make this series a can't-live-without-watching show:
The relationships between the professionals that create an early staged Broadway wannabe production and their families.
The inside world of a cultural industry and the creation of a project from the beginning.
Some very appropriate actors to play the part: Debra Messing (Grace from Will&Grace), Jack Davenport (UK series This Life and one of the bad guys at Pirates of the Caribbean), Anjelica Houston, Megan Hilty (follow-up Glinda in Broadway's Wicked), Christian Borle (Legally Blonde, the musical) and Katharine Mc Phee (American Idol) as main characters.
Great musical numbers.
It was launched on February 6th and we can watch the 9th episode today. This season will have 15 episodes and a 2nd season is already confirmed!
I discovered it last week thanks to my brother-in-law and I'm already up to date. What are you waiting for? Get smashed!

Live Music
Us people who are really moved by music and performing arts are a vast majority, this is why live shows will never die. The feeling of experiencing a spectacle for 1, 2, 3 or 4 hours is not equal to the virtual experience (believe me, I tried watching Coldplay’s presentation at Las Ventas and, though it was a great promotion idea, I felt envy mostly).
Contributing to the creation, implementation and promotion of these experiences has to be amazing.

I loved to learn about what an amount of work and responsibility the production of live music events involve, and Kata talked a lot about work ethics, stress, how it affects the personal life scene, etc. It was very interesting personal and professionally.

The Lion King
The Circle of Life - 2008 Broadway Cast at the Tony Awards
Disfrutad! Enjoy!
So… I finally saw The Lion King, the musical, in its Spanish version! It was a bittersweet experience.
Bitter because, considering some exceptions, there was a feel of general relaxation. I felt that both artists and the crew weren’t putting everything on it! Like they are used to being liked because of how spectacular the show is.
Of course, those who work on and behind the scenes vary day by day, and I only attended to the show held on March 15th 2012. It’s also possible that the audience is not the most demanding, on a daily basis, but I am. I find it easy to enjoy a show but very difficult to qualify it as outstanding.
On the other hand, I understand the fact that they have to adapt the script to the Spanish culture, but it’s inevitable that some changes hurt my ears, have an easy feel to me or look really out of context. But it’s clear that I’m not the target of those adaptations and, if they work, that is the important thing in the industry and I think that’s fine.
Sweet because it definitely is a spectacular show. I believe they were faithful to the original version, despite the script, and losing quality as little as possible is appreciated. But I expected nothing less from a project that Stage Entertainment wanted to launch as the most important in Spanish musicals’ history (which is not that long), with the supervision of its original creators and some original staff.
I had the opportunity to enjoy some great performances, highlighting the following:
Rafiki or Brenda “Brinzo” Mhlongo: It’s a well-known trapping character (the wise monkey), but Brenda makes it real and it’s normal, since she gave life to it in Germany, Shouth Africa, Broadway and the U.S. Tour before the Spanish production.
Simba or Carlos Rivera: In addition to the fact that when he came on the scene you could hear women saying “Hello Simba…”, he is really good and the one that made me feel it the most.
Timon or David Ávila: The comical and necessary points were held by this actor. Who knows, knows, you know?
The background animals, dancers and the chorus, in general: They were the real main characters for me, and that doesn’t happen in every show.
No need to talk about the scenery, visual effects and costume. We know that it’s especially creative, amazing and worth seeing (spoiler alert: the stampede, pure art).
Yes, I recommend this production. It is enjoyed aesthetically and emotionally, and the musical as an original creation is outstanding, as expected.
Anecdote: I really am a freak, so I went to the theatre having watched the spectacular opening scene in YouTube a thousand times. When the live show started, this impressive scene was taken from me by a mom in front of me that was acting like a total hooligan (screaming and clapping throughout the song! Just watch it, woman, and then clap and cheer!), next to her attentive daughter who made no sound. Well, the audience is part of the charm that live shows offer, and it cannot be controlled.

Born this way

On Sunday 12, my personal concerts' manager Phillipond and I went to see The Monster Ball Tour in Madrid.
I'm not a fan of the fan phenomenon. Artists inspire me a lot, more, less or not at all. Joanne Stefani Angelina Germanotta or Lady Gaga (emerged from Radio Ga Ga, the song by Queen) is a stage monster. I could sense her desire of leaving the audience more than satisfied in every performance I saw of her, wherever it was, and Madrid wasn't an exception.
She sang (right) while standing, sitting, lying, crouching, rolling on the ground, jumping and dancing, among other positions. She played 2 instruments at least (my height stoped me from distinguishing some objects), the piano with hands and heels. In addition, she set the guitar and bass pace also with her heel.
She made me laugh, moved me and made me sing songs I didn't even know.
To the fans: "When you get home, I want you to love yourselves more than you love me."
To children's parents: "I hope you understand the humor of the show", "...I am a good example for some things, and not for others."

I really liked the concert's aesthetics

This woman live is a hole other thing... I started to appreciate her as a professional when I watched this video:
¿Y vosotros? ¿Qué pensáis de Lady Gaga? ¿Copia u original? ¿Genial o cansina?
What about you? What do you think about Lady Gaga? Is she a copy or the real thing? Great or tiresome?

Interesante.
Ahora me gustan.
Te va a dar vergüenza.

Departures and Arrivals
I used to fear airports. They are quite scary. People saying goodbye, crying, some not knowing when they’ll see each other again.
This is one of the consequences I got of moving from Argentina to Spain. The day of our departure, almost 8 years ago, was really horrible.
A lot of stress because of our disastrous planning. Grace’s hair became totally gray. Farewells, many farewells, and we cried as if the world was over. Except my little brother, Nash, who would say things like “Hey hey, wanna play choco choco lala? And I, crying with my sister Chus, couldn’t understand how he didn’t see the pain I felt. How could he be in that mood? By the way, my oldest brother was staying in Buenos Aires for now.
Since that day, my eyes got automatically wet every time I entered an airport and this lasted a few years.
But my panic with airports is not totally due to my traumatic departure. Not to mention the luggage problems, the queues and the time you waste there. Now that’s scary. Especially when you are going to live abroad and you have to pay more than what your personal objects are worth because of overweight.
“Please let it be a male steward, please let it be a male steward”, I say to myself. And I always get the stewardess in the worst mood: “Sorry, you have 100 grams in overweight, you have to pay 359€”. Oh, come on! So I have to take things from the suitcase and put them in my backpack, which ends weighing 25 kilos more than my suitcase but it has the perfect size so as to fit in the low-cost airlines’ hand baggage fitter. And my acting skills are very useful to convince anyone that my back is not breaking into 4 pieces.
This is an example of the typical conversation with someone who is catching a flight to/from Paris on the next day:
Probable Passenger: “Yeah, I have a flight tomorrow at 5pm to Paris.”
Realist: “Ok, so let’s meet at Malasaña tomorrow at 6pm and say goodbye, dude.”
If there is not a RER strike, an air traffic controllers’ one, a stewardess in charge of overweight cases’ one, is not snowing, raining too hard and there is no Icelandic volcanic cloud, your flight may take off on time.
Charles de Gaulle is the airport I hate the most in the whole wide world. On the day I was trapped there for a whole day, it gave me time to throw up 3 times in a 2-hour flight to Barajas, courtesy of the wonderful day I had. Yes, it is possible to throw up 3 times in 3 different places, one of them being my jeans, in such a short flight.
I love Barajas. Ezeiza too though it’s a mess. And other ones are just funny, like Edinburgh’s airport. On the front door you can read the following warning: “No heels in the airport”. Interesting.
Despite all this, I don’t hate airports anymore. I like them now. I now understand Nash’s attitude in Ezeiza 8 years ago, and I act the same way. I don’t say goodbye anymore, I say ‘see you soon’ ;and I don’t cry at airports, I smile more than anywhere else. I don’t pay as much attention to Departures than to Arrivals. I think about people reuniting, wanting to learn about a place, the multiculturalism and mix of languages you can find there. At the airport I observe people and make up stories for them.
So I’ll smile when going to fetch you. I’ll see you in the distance, suitcase in hand. I will feel those sudden nerves and when you get to the door I’ll hug you. You will be embarrassed. You’ll be as nervous as every time we’ve reunited, you will feel just as weird. I’ll say to myself, with the same smile in my face: “Thanks, airports".

The first time I remember was when I was 3 years old.
My family (meaning father, mother and siblings existing at that time) used to spend the weekends at a club. My parents took turns to play tennis and spent their time at the cafeteria (without losing sight of the children). Us, children, played in every corner and there were always new places to discover. If I now returned to my first club in Buenos Aires, I wouldn’t recognize it as the labyrinth that it was for me at the time.
Before telling this amazing story, you should identify the two engines of my existence. The two things that have moved me in the past 22 years:

- Love: Dying to feel it, to live it no matter what.
- Food: And I’m using the wrong term. I mean the chocolatiest, greasiest, most salty or sweetest thing there is. Being more specific, the most anti healthy existing things (when my metabolism changes, I will have to be transported on a trolley).
One of my “easy friends” from the club communicated the idea of going to her home and eat some hot dogs. The next thing I remember is being in the kitchen of that unknown house with a hot dog in my mouth.
It’s said that, so as to steal effectively, you must leave the shop as natural as possible. No one ever suspected of me playing a prank, because I never knew I was doing it myself, and I still don’t know for sure. In this case, I walked calmly as always, without my parents noticing, to the way out where I probably gave a smile to the guard. My friend’s home was close.
When my belly and myself where satisfied, we left the apartment, walked on the sidewalk to the club’s entrance, where I gave another smile to the guard this time with ketchup on my mouth. I walked in the cafeteria and sat down where my parents were, surrounded by people.
It was the first time I saw the sign that made me realize that what I did, no matter my perception, was wrong. When she saw me, Grace’s lips joined so tightly that it seemed like smoke was about to go out from her nose and eyes (the only hugely opened facial holes).
I spent all the afternoon in a corner of the cafeteria (and Grace made it clear: I MUST NOT MOVE FROM THAT SPOT) licking the ketchup out of my mouth and reliving the sweet taste of what was instinctive for me and incorrect for the others.

How can anyone want to do anything different from art?
How can anyone not want to be an artist?
And by artist I mean creator. To be inspired by something.
Maybe it's food, maybe paintings, performing or people. There has to be something.
Being inspired by too many things, that's a problem.
