Smash es una idea original de Steven Spielberg, productor de la serie, que fantaseó con hacer de cada temporada la producción de un nuevo musical y, si realmente podía funcionar, luego transformarla en una verdadera producción de Broadway. ¿No es un plan perfecto? ¡Para mi lo es! Puede ser una de las ideas que contribuyan al cambio que Broadway necesita para reactivarse. Spielberg habló con el actual presidente de NBC Entertainment, Robert Greenblatt, y así nació el proyecto.
Esta primera temporada va a cerca de Marilyn, el musical (aunque todavía no le pusieron un título oficial). A primera vista podemos pensar "¿Marilyn Monroe? muy poco original...", pero ese pensamiento desaparece en los primeros minutos de un primer capítulo que dura 90. Muchos tuvimos nuestra época Marilyn (Con faldas y a lo loco fue mi película favorita por un tiempo y tengo 7 películas de Marilyn en mi poder, aunque la mayoría son bastante malas) y no podemos dudar que fue un icono ayer, lo es hoy y probablemente lo será mañana. Existen libros, documentales, fotografías artísticas, una conocida obra de arte contemporánea y una película actual sobre ella. Su imagen está relacionada con el sexo, la tristeza, las drogas y la música, entre otros, por lo que se ha intentado crear musicales de su vida que, obviamente, no fueron un éxito. Pero, aun así, es un tema con potencial para un musical así que ¿por qué no darle otra oportunidad?

El capítulo piloto estuvo en el aire el 6 de Febrero y podremos ver el capítulo 9 hoy. Esta temporada tendrá 15, en total, y ¡ya fue confirmada una 2da temporada!

Smash was an original idea by Steven Spielberg, executive producer of the show, who fantasized about making each season out of a different new musical production and then actually staging it on Broadway if it was worth it. Isn't that a perfect plan? Hell yeah! It can be an idea that contributes to Broadway's needed change so as to reactivate. Anyway, Spielberg talked about it to former chairman of NBC Entertainment Robert Greenblatt and the project was born.
This first season is all about Marilyn, The Musical (though they haven't figured out the title yet). The truth is it can seem like "not Marilyn again..." at first, but that thought is quickly vanished on the first minutes of a 90 minute pilot. Many of us have had a Marilyn fan period (Some like it hot was my favorite movie for a while and I own 7 of them, though most of them are pretty bad) and she is an undoubtedly timeless icon. We can find hundreds of books, documentaries, artistic photographs, a well-known contemporary art piece and a 2011 movie about her. Her image is related to sex, sadness, drugs and music, to name a few, so it has been tried to make a musical out of her but it certainly wasn't a hit. The topic has what it takes to be a smash so why not trying it again?

It was launched on February 6th and we can watch the 9th episode today. This season will have 15 episodes and a 2nd season is already confirmed!
